19th HongKong International Wushu Championship

What an unforgettable experience at the 19th Hong Kong International Wushu Festival!

With over 4,000 participants from all over the world-ranging from children to seniors, and external to internal martial arts-this competition was a true showcase of skill, dedication, and the global spirit of Wushu.

Representing our club and Singapore at the competition were Master Lee, our esteemed Master Coach whose exceptional skills, leadership and dedication to excellence have been the cornerstone of JunWu’s success ; Coach Dylan, who wow us with his mastery and elegance in the Wudang style; and Jasmine, our passionate and dedicated ‘young’ practitioner who never fail to bring inspiration and pride to Junwu. The trio competed in six individual Tai Chi events and one paired Tai Chi push hands event. Despite the odds and the highly skilled practitioners from countries like Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, India, South Africa, Egypt, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, they proudly brought home 5 Individual Golds, 1 Silver and a Gold for paired event.

Competing on such an international stage for the first time (other than in Malaysia), we were thrilled to test our skills and learn from other martial arts enthusiasts. An amusing challenge we faced was borrowing weapons for our routines. Without our own swords and sabres, we almost had to compete with kid sized weapons! We had a evening of great laugh and fun, bringing out our inner kid as we practiced with the smaller sized weapons. Thankfully, we were graciously lent weapons by the Hong Kong Youth competitors, they literally 拔刀相助 – demonstrating camaraderie at the heart of martial arts.

One key takeaway from this competition was the importance of training for precision and correctness in each posture, combined with gracefulness of course. The panel of judges from China and Hong Kong held a high standard for these elements, and we were deeply encouraged when the renowned Master Ma personally approached us to say, “打得很规范,很好” (“Your execution is very precise, well done”).

This recognition is a tremendous affirmation of the journey we’ve embarked on and the teachings we uphold in our JunWu centers. Precision and correctness are at the heart of our training, and this focus is what truly sets us apart in the this competition.

We are honored to announce that we have been appointed as the official representatives of the International Wushu Festival in Hong Kong for upcoming competitions. If you’re looking to elevate your Tai Chi practice, or even take part in international competitions, we welcome you to join us on this journey. Come experience the thrill of competition, the joy of learning, and the growth that comes from stepping onto the international stage.

Let’s bring more honor to Singapore in 2025 together!never fail to cont h
